09. video/action for ecruteak

[ Hey, it's Naminé again! Except... she looks a little--no, a lot--bewildered. When she woke up this morning, she'd been missing something very important. The next moment, she'd been here in Ecruteak City, a region over. That's what explains the very different backdrop--not the training center in Celadon, but rather, outside the Burned Tower.

It's a good thing her Vulpix is at her side, at least. It's a comfort--a small one, but it helps calm Naminé down. ]

I... didn't expect to appear here. Um, does this happen often, during these strange weekends?

[ His hand drops back to his side. ]

Really? I've never been anywhere near Goldenrod. I skipped over it so I could get here to work on some business. [ Felicity is draped over Aurora's middle for only a moment, toppling over with a squeak since she... Didn't think all of that through. Stan rolls his eyes again. Children. ]

Is it way different over in Kanto? I heard you can only go there after doing certain things.

Mm. They have circus shows there, sometimes... One of my friends is involved in it, so whenever they have a show, we travel to Goldenrod. And the department store is so big--there's so much to buy!

[ ... or, you know, for Riku to buy. Naminé lets over a little laugh as she kneels down to help Felicity onto her feet. ] There... Are you okay?

[ And, standing up to look at Stan now-- ] I'm not sure... I think so? It has a different... feeling, than Johto. I'm not sure about doing certain things being a requirement for traveling there... Several people have taken the ferry on their first day in order to meet up with friends or family.

[ Felicity isn't a big girl and therefore soaks up what attention she does get before toddling back over to the other Vulpix and licking her cheek. ]

Huh. I wouldn't know. I'm the only one from Gravity Falls here right now. My niece, nephew, and brother are back at home. [ it's not like i miss them or anything ] We can get ya back to Celadon eventually. Probably. [ A beat. ] Maybe. None of my guys know Fly or anything... Might have to look around for you.

[ The offer's so... unexpected that it takes Naminé a moment to react. She knows a lot of people here are genuinely nice... but it's still a surprise, when someone she hardly knows offers to do something for her. ]

Oh-- um, are you sure? If it's not too much trouble... That's very kind of you.

[ He shrugs it off. He DID get an egg from her not too long ago. The least he could do is find her a ride home. Fare included once he thinks one up of course. ]

Don't mention it. It shouldn't be too hard. I'm not leavin' here any time soon but I got a couple people who might be able to help you get where you need to be.

[ But Stan, how can you include a fare when you're not the one taking that person somewhere? EASILY. ]

I don't do this a whole lot. Generosity gives me heartburn.

Still she looks... relieved? And happy, even. Even if it's a quiet sort of happy, there's a smile there nonetheless. ]

Okay. Um, until then--you live here, don't you? I've... been wanting to visit, but I've never had a chance, and...

[ She may as well? ]

[ Hooray. Good deed for the decade accomplished.

Now here's the question. Does he wanna buzz off? Naturally he does. It looks weird when he hangs around with most people for too long. It's the age bracket. ]

I'm still shacking up at the Inn until I can get enough money to rent a building out. I was gonna start a business around here sellin' eggs and whatchamacallits. [ He takes a look around and flicks his hand in no direction in particular. ]

This place is for the artsy-fartsy types. It's got theatres, music lesons, mostly stuff from way East where I'm from. There's some spooky towers I've bee scoping out Pokemon at too. It's exactly the kinda location I like being in. You should like it.

[ c'mon stan you can't deny this face can you ]

I've never heard of anyone making it into a business... but I think a lot of people would be willing to buy, especially if you have such a wide variety.

[ Spooky tower? ]

Someone was telling me about the Burned Tower... I've been wanting to catch a ghost type of my own...

[ he can deny dipper and mabel's faces 95% of the time so why not this one. She seem's down with his business model, though. That's a couple points.

... He chews it over in his head and then: ]

You wanna go ghost-huntin' then, kiddo?

[ ...!! Her eyes widen, and the smile that spreads across her face is a little brighter than any he's likely seen. Naminé had half-expected him to leave her to her own devices, but she can't let an opportunity like this slip past--especially since he has been here longer, and might know his way around the Burned Tower. ]

Oh! Yes, please! Um, if it's not too much trouble!

[ He was going to leave her to her own devices but IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S TAKING HER GHOST-HUNTING... There are a couple he's still looking for anyway. So it couldn't hurt. ]

Yeah, sure. Come on. I've gotta find myself a Phantump and they're the sneakiest ones the tower's got. [ He pauses and flicks his wrist where-- poof! --a Pokeball just happens to appear through casual sleight of hand. ] In ya go, Felicity.

[ The Vupix whines because she would rather NOT have to go back in the ball :( But into the ball she goes-- annnd when that ball disappears, out pops one housing the most show-typey Persian you ever did see. She looks like she has been jostled awake from her nap... Life is tough when you have a Dark-heavy moveset isn't it, Misery? ]

It's not too much of a walk from here.

Okay! [ She keeps Aurora out of her Pokéball--the Vulpix, despite her size, is fiercely protective of her trainer. Naminé peers at the Persian, though... oh, she's too cute.

She points to the Burned Tower. ]

It's there, isn't it? It's so big...

[ Misery prefers the term "gorgeous" and "stunning" over "cute". Please understand. She is pretty spoiled. Stan starts off in the direction of the tower, passing her in his slow, ambling old man gait. ]

Yep. My knees aren't really keen on visiting there but I gotta get the dumb ghost tree somehow. Having some company might help. [ OH HOOOO ] Pretty sure they've got a fire weakness too if you'd wanna gimme a hand if we find one...

[ ding ding ding son. ]

[ Naminé's Cinccino and Misery would be two peas in a pod. How many Poképuffs Mini get, no one knows. (The answer is so many.) ]

I think Aurora would be more than happy to help. [ Actually the Vulpix has a FIGHT ME attitude. Aurora don't mess around. ] Will you be okay? Um--because of your knees, I mean.

[ Misery yawns and trudges her way alongside Stan with an idle flick of her tail. ]

Don't worry about it. I was jumping through windows and running away from the Secret Service before I got here... [ That doesn't sound ominous. ] Where're you from?

[ From the... Okay, she doesn't know what the Secret Service is but it doesn't sound.... good.

She falls back for a tiny moment as she thinks about his question. Time to go to her backstory fallback... ]

It's a place called Twilight Town. It's... very big, and I lived in a mansion.

[ An old mansion where people thought she was a ghost and worked on restoring someone's memories after breaking the links... yeah. ]

Twilight Town? Sounds like a place my nephew would be into... [ It's just got that creepy name and everything. ]

I'm from Oregon. I live in a cabin in the middle of the woods. Big difference.

[ The Tower is a bit of a walk but convesation is handy. Tour Guide Life. ]

... And what do you do in Celadon? Sounds like a shift in scenery from a mansion.

Really? There's so much to do there... and it's always bathed in twilight.

[ A big change from the castle, especially. Naminé nods, pushing a bit of hair out of her eyes. ]

When I arrived here, I met with a few of my friends. We all live in the training center in Celadon.

[ A town like that actually sounds sleepy and pretty. Sleepy enough that he'd sleep for a century if given the chance. Boy howdy. ]

That doesn't sound half bad, really.

[ The approach to the tower goes on as planned and once they reach the foot of it Stan goes ahead to shoulder open the door with Misery leading the charge at a slow slink. ]

Fun fact: This place is like seven hundred-years old. Dunno how it's standing but I guess there's hope for me if it's still going strong after getting burned up.

[ you could sleep for like a YEAR just ask Sora ]

It wasn't... but, I didn't get to see as much of it as I'd liked. [ Which is true; there were very few times she got to walk around on her own. ]

Seven hundred years... even after it was burned... [ It's pretty amazing--and the awe in her voice is pretty hard to miss. ] It must be a nice home, for some of the Pokémon.

[ Sleeping for a year doesn't sound THAT BAD. ]

There's a whole bunch of Legendary malarkey that goes along with it. [ The door is held open just long enough for her to get through when she chooses to enter. ] I came here a little while after I got settled in. It's mostly Gastly and fire slug things. What I'm looking for looks like a tree stump with eyes.

[ And they also happen to be RARE so we might be here all day. ]

I dunno what they're doing here and not in, oh I dunno, a place where trees actually live.

Someone who used to be here left me her Phantump... but I wouldn't mind finding another.

[ Because they're CUTE. ]

And... I don't think I would mind a Gastly.

[ so mysterious...!! ]

Maybe... there was a forest where the Burned Tower was, and they just never left?

[ That... Might make sense. He tucks that bit away to make up as a neat story later on. For reasons. Ya know. ]

Maybe. Everything in the last couple of Routes have been nothing BUT trees. Trees and grass and more trees and filled with bugs and birds.. It's more like home than I thought.

[ Misery slinks ahead to go sniffing around and pawing at a far wall. Clearly a way to coax a ghost out. She's got this. ]

There's a whoooole lotta skill involved in finding ghosts, kid. [ He says with a vague motion to the cat who is really just finding and excuse to SCRAPE her claws along the bajillion-yeard old walls. Lots of skill, that one. ] Misery's got a sixth sense. It's amazing.

[ SCRRRAAAATTTTTCCCCHHHHH... This is probably so much cash in property damage. Why is she doing it on the main floor. If anything, however, little licks of purple begin flitting from the wall. It looks more like smoke, but it is moving along and away from where Misery is trying to gut its hiding spot. Stan lowers his voice and points-- ]

Really? I'll have to explore more outside of Ecruteak city... And I don't have a bug type, either.

[ Caterpie is too cute though. ]

Oh! [ Normally she'd be concerned except HOLY COW IT'S WORKING. And it's a quiet exclamation, but Naminé's eyes widen as she watches. She had no idea Pokémon had such amazing ghost-hunting abilities. ] Has she just always been able to do that?

[ has your cat always been able to ruin history, stan ]

Nah, she just likes how it feels on her paws. She did that all over the last Inn we stayed at. [ Where he has a bill and an EJECT FROM PREMISES IMMEDIATELY photo neatly posted at the front desk. ]

Turns out people don't like Pokemon practicing their craft indoors.

[ ANYWAY Misery halts and drops from the wall when a little Gastly decides to phase out from the wall, looking... Not so happy with being disturbed. ]

There's your Gastly. I'll letcha get it.

[ He makes a shoo'ing gesture with his hand for the girl to go ahead and try catching the silly thing as Misery ignores it in favor of licking her paw. ]
